S8P1. Students will examine the scientific view of the nature of matter.
a. Distinguish between atoms and molecules.
b. Describe the difference between pure substances (elements and compounds) and
mixtures.
c. Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas states.
d. Distinguish between physical and chemical properties of matter as physical (i.e.,
density, melting point, boiling point) or chemical (i.e., reactivity, combustibility).
e. Distinguish between changes in matter as physical (i.e., physical change) or chemical
(development of a gas, formation of precipitate, and change in color).
f. Recognize that there are more than 100 elements and some have similar properties as
shown on the Periodic Table of Elements.
g. Identify and demonstrate the Law of Conservation of Matter.

***FALL BREAK Recovery Task***
"Out of Thin Air"
"Unruly Elements"
"Into the Atom"
***Click on the Link(2) above for access to the Mystery of Matter Videos to complete the task below***
Your can choose from up to 3 videos to watch, then write a report on the video(s) they selected.
Although this task is NOT Mandatory, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to change a failed quiz grade to a 100, or replace a "0" for an incomplete or missing assignment into a 100, by working on 1, 2, or all 3 of these videos.
After watching the video(s), your student should complete a 1 page minimum "HANDWRITTEN" report on the video which is to include:
-Who?
-What?
-Where?
-When?
-Why is/was this important to science?
-How do/did we benefit from this scientist/discovery?
The videos cover more than one scientist or discovery, so you can choose your favorite, or write about multiple scientists within the one video report.
To get full credit for the task.., you MUST respond to ALL 6 of the target questions stated above.
Handwriting must also be neat and legible.
The paper must be well organized and content must be well thought out.
This is your chance to teach me about Science!
